Stimulus Grant Application Requests

The City of Riverside has applied for Stimulus Grants through the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for infrastructure repairs to major thoroughfares within the city. Applications have also been made to Montgomery County for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds which involve infrastructure improvements, business incentives and supporting economic development activities.

Applications made to the MVRPC:

  1. Valley Pike Improvements for $421,080

  2. Spinning Road Improvements for $332,090

  3. Springfield Pike Improvements for $483,010

  4. Woodman Drive/Linden Avenue Improvements for $432,850

  5. Airway Road Improvements for $526,130

Applications made to ODOT:

  1. Harshman Road/Valley Pike Improvements for $6,457,143.00

  2. Spaulding Road/Spinning Road Improvements for $1,710,830.00

  3. Woodman Drive/Linden Avenue Improvements for $2,643,080.00

  4. Airway Road Improvements for $2,156,440.00

  5. Springfield Pike Improvements for $2,111,725.00

Applications have also been made to Montgomery County for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. CDBG funds involve infrastructure improvements, business incentives and supporting economic development. Below is a list of projects that were submitted for funding:

  1. Reconfiguration of Airway/Woodman to include the repositioning of a traffic light and the addition of curbs, sidewalk, and a tree lawn; applied for $1,000,000.

  1. Reconstruction of Center of Flight Boulevard for re-alignment of the street to coincide with possible train depot and the National Museum of the United States Air Force; applied for $650,000.

  1. Danis Property Entrance for the construction of an extension to the off ramp from Harshman to Old Harshman; applied for $350,000.

  1. The construction of a Water Educational Facility/Museum, an advanced learning center/museum/Center of Excellence. The facility would be shared by Veolia, Battelle, and Cargill; applied for $1,000,000.

  1. New construction of a 50,000 square foot City Hall to house all functions of our municipal government; applied for $2,000,000.

  1. Infrastructure improvements on Harshman/Valley to Reconstruct the intersection to accommodate the logistics operations center in Riverside; applied for $2,000,000.

Applications have been made to the Clean Water State Revolving Fund through the U.S. EPA to help fund water quality protection projects for wastewater treatment, pollution control and watershed management for the following projects:

  1. Salt Storage Roof located at 1791 Harshman Road. Proposal is to install a 65’ x 60’ roof over the current/improved concrete block salt storage area.

  1. Replacement of floor drains located at 1531 Wake Avenue with oil separators and connect to sanitary sewer system.

  1. Elimination of old septic system and any potential illicit discharge located at 1791 Harshman Road (Service Department Building); this will facilitate the City’s compliance with NPDES.

  1. Cleanup and removal of trash, debris, and pollutants from Lorella Pond and surrounding watershed area.

Stimulus Grant Application Awarded

The City has been notified from the MVRPC on the approval of our Spinning Road Improvements Project for an amount up to $332,090. This project includes base pavement repairs and slurry seal from Linden Avenue to Airway Road. You can expect to see work begin on Spinning Road in early 2010.

Woodman Drive/Linden Avenue

  • Work limits will include Woodman Drive from the northern US 35 ramps to the south corporation line and Linden Avenue from corporation line to corporation line.

  • The scope includes milling off 1.5" of asphalt, removing 2" of asphalt and damaged concrete joint pavement, repairing the joints in concrete with a 2" thick asphalt patch, overlay whole project with 1.5" of asphalt.  A coating of reclaimite will be applied to increase the longevity of the pavement.

  • All handicap ramps within project limits will be replaced with ADA compliant ramps.

  • Also included are full depth base repairs at each of the ramps to remove the damaged and potholed areas, reconstruction of failing catch basin castings/concrete, raised pavement markers (pavement reflectors), manhole/water valve utility adjustments and application of thermoplastic striping (will last at least 5 years instead of paint).

Spinning Road

    • Work limits include Spinning Road from Linden Avenue to Airway Road.

    • The scope includes full depth base repairs of significantly damaged pavement sections.  Installation of slurry seal over entire project.

    • All handicap ramps within project limits will be replaced with ADA compliant ramps.

    • Also included are manhole/water valve utility adjustments and application of thermoplastic striping (will last at least 5 years instead of paint).

The City has also been notified from ODOT on the approval of our Woodman Drive/Linden Avenue Improvements Project for an amount up to $2,643,080.00. The work on Woodman Drive will extend from the 35 bridge deck to the south City limit and on Linden Avenue from City limit to City limit. This project will include some mill-n-fill, joint repair, and clear-coat bonding and sealant application.
